Wow, Lisa, your words are beautifully stated and inspiring! Thanks so much for sharing your perspective. I agree that it's the "digging in" and continuously being motivated to explore with families that are keys to meaningful EI. I also think there's something really important about adult learning that our field is just starting to discover. We hope to offer a short course on applying adult learning principles to early intervention next spring. Stay tuned!

It is important to go into every training with an open-mind and determination to learn something new. I really appreciated the EI Institute. The presentation of the keynote was perfect because it directly addressed all of the myths about coaching. Adult learning styles should be incorporated, but it requires more thought on our end. One thing that was mentioned was the difference of the Adult Voice versus the Parent Voice. The Adult Voice seeks understanding and the Parent Voice sounds more judgemental. How are we presenting our own ideas to families? Dathan and M'Lisa stated, "Coaching is not about checking in, but digging in." How perfect is this statement. There is so much to discover about a child including their family dynamics and what they do all day. There are simple things throughout their day that go beyond the basics of what we see for the short time we are there. We have to continuously be motivated to rise to the challenge of digging in deeper and using our creativity. This is not an easy job that we do, but if we dig deeper, it can be even more rewarding for us, but more importantly, the family.
