Wow, Tanya, what a fantastic example of seizing a "micro routine" for lots of natural learning opportunities! It sounds like you helped the family take advantage of this seemingly small event (clean up with the toy broom) that occurred during snacktime (the bigger routine). What the family learned during that session will be more likely to spread into other activities too because it was natural to them. Thanks for sharing this!

We have been using Telehealth/telepractice as a necessity and have a few great visits with families using natural routines. My favorite was a child eating a snack that had to be peeled. Some items fell to the floor which required clean up which required the child to ask for their toy broom. This routine occurs on an everyday basis for the family. Family was able to see how this routine could be used to work on expanding child's communication, following directions, fine motor, sensory processing, gross motor... (and this lasted for about 30 minutes of the visit).

Another great article, Dana. I don't reply enough, but these lend themselves to great discussions such as, "How do we get more insight during intake, the assessment process, or during services?" Thank you!
