Thanks Amy! I definitely can't take all the credit for this idea...I love how M'Lisa Shelden and Dathan Rush talk about intentional modeling, instead of hopeful modeling. I heard them talk about this in a workshop and I think a lightbulb went off for a lot of people. The idea of hopeful modeling was so funny and so relevant - we model by doing "our thing" and hope the parent "gets it." Intentional modeling makes so much more sense, and adding practice and reflection are like the icing on the cake. I hope your group finds this info helpful too!

Great article, Dana! I love the idea of taking a fairly common strategy like modeling and wrapping additional strategies around it to increase parent participation and take the interventions to the next level. I can't wait to share this with our Reflective Practice Group - thanks!

You're welcome, Barbara! I'd love to know more about the questions the post raised for you. Are you wondering about when consultative services are appropriate or how they work? I think it really depends on what kinds of support and how much a family needs. Let me know what you're thinking and maybe we can explore it more here on the blog!

Thanks for this post! Great, very useful!

May not be the point of the article, but to me, certainly raises a lot of additional questions about very consultative practice versus more hands on :) To me, a combination of the two and at least weekly time with families, occasionally even more often would be ideal.
Thanks again!
